Symantha Shackelford

 MS, Resident in Counseling

Phoebe brings a warm, supportive, and forward-thinking approach to our team, developed through her work with neurodivergent adolescents and teenagers. This experience has given her a deep understanding of the unique challenges young people face and the importance of providing a safe, respectful space where they can learn and grow.

Her background as a Marriage and Family Therapist grounds her in a systemic perspective, recognizing the powerful influence of family and social environments on overall well-being.

Born and raised in Hawai‘i, Phoebe also brings the values of community and connection into her work. Before becoming a therapist, she served six years in the Air Force, an experience that continues to shape her dedication and compassion.

She specializes in supporting adolescents and teens through challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem struggles, or life transitions. Drawing on evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques, she works to help her clients discover their unique strengths and cultivate resilience. Her goal is for every client to feel understood, valued, and empowered to be their most authentic selves, and she invites adolescents and teens to take the next step in their journey with her toward growth and healing.

Amber Dise

DNP, PMHNP-BC

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Amber is a Doctorally Prepared, Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

Amber has over 20 years of experience working in healthcare, she is a Registered Nurse and has worked for INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital, in community and school health settings, home healthcare, and as an adjunct faculty at George Mason University.

Amber has experience helping patients navigate the psychosocial aspects of medical conditions and illness management, especially when they overlap with psychiatric concerns.

Addressing mental health issues can be scary, especially for children and parents. Amber works with families to create a calming and trusting environment. Clients are encouraged to discuss their wants, needs, and fears, which in turn helps to destigmatize the process.

Amber offers a highly personalized approach tailored to each of her clients individual needs to help attain the personal growth they are striving for. She uses medications judiciously and works collaboratively with others involved in your health, including primary care, specialists, pediatricians, and therapists.

Amber is trained in Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, incorporating many of the skills acquired in daily practice, including active listening, reflection, and meeting clients “where they are at.” She conducts a thorough evaluation and uses targeted treatments that are evidence based, holistic, and aimed toward your overall wellness.

Amber provides a safe and therapeutic environment, welcoming all backgrounds.

Amber enjoys spending time with her family and her 2 dogs, traveling, dancing, and cooking.
